About WRFED
Weatherby-Reynolds-Fritson, Engineering and Design (WRFED) has been a family-owned and operated engineering firm for more than 30 years. Started in 1973 by Gene Weatherby, the firm has been located in Jackson, Calif., for more than 20 years. After Gene Weatherby’s initial work in Bear Valley, developing and planning the community and its ski resort, Gene’s son Terrence joined the firm along with Grant Reynolds. Together with Gene they formed Weatherby Reynolds Consulting Engineers in 1991.
In 2003, Weatherby Reynolds Consulting Engineers added Kevin Fritson. Kevin is a licensed contractor turned engineer with a focus on design and a fresh look at alternative building solutions.
A small firm, WRFED specializes in civil, structural and architectural engineering and is a member of the Mother Lode Chapter of ACEC California.
The firm’s staff includes four licensed engineers in the fields of structural and civil engineering, one EIT, one CAD specialist, one office manager and an administrative assistant. A family-oriented business, WRFED is dedicated to their clients, families, and employees, and their community – where the firm has always been involved with several charitable organizations and schools throughout Amador and Calaveras Counties.

Terry Weatherby
Terrence Weatherby joined Grant Reynolds and Gene Weatherby to create this firm in 1990. He has extensive experience in all aspects of structural engineering and is a long time resident of the Foothill region. He has gained experience in dealing with the issues of snow load and winter weatherization techniques while living in the area.
Terrence Weatherby is a registered Structural (S3321-California) and Civil Engineer (C40000-California) and a partner of Weatherby-Reynolds-Fritson. He received a B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1982.
Terry is responsible for providing complete structural calculations and/or drawings for a wide variety of projects. Some sample projects include: Several concrete warehouse-office tilt-up buildings; a three story office building of wood construction; many large single-family residences of unconventional construction; a steel-framed auditorium for California State University at Fresno; several school upgrade projects; hospital remodels and many miscellaneous industrial structures. Terry has a significant amount of experience dealing with a great variety of Building Departments and structural materials all over the country.

Grant Reynolds
Grant Reynolds is a Registered Civil Engineer in California and is a principal partner of Weatherby-Reynolds-Fritson. He received a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1983 and obtained his Professional Engineers registration in 1991.
Since joining WRF, Grant has been responsible for the design of various Cal-Trans encroachment permit plans and drainage calculations including the realignment of Allen Ranch Road/State Highway 49 intersection in Sutter Creek, California, and reconfiguration of the Mountain Ranch Road/State Highway 49 intersection in San Andreas, California; sewage collection and treatment/disposal systems; water distribution systems; drainage systems; traffic and roadway improvements; grading and site layout, utilities coordination, and mapping for various subdivisions and commercial/office projects; structural calculations and drawing review for various building projects.
He is also experienced with the preperation of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans in connection with the State's NPDES requirements. His experience allows him to be familiar with all phases of a project from design through construction.

Kevin Fritson
Kevin Fritson has been in practice for 25 years, and became a partner of Weatherby-Reynolds-Fritson in 2003 after completing the PE exam in April 2002. He is a registered Civil Engineer who has experience in many forms of residential materials and specializes in architectural design.
Upon taking and passing the PE exam in April 2002, Kevin joined Terry Weatherby and Grant Reynolds in July 2003 to become a partner of Weatherby-Reynolds-Fritson (formerly Weatherby-Reynolds Consulting Engineers, Inc.) Prior to becoming a partner, Kevin worked part-time as a Junior Engineer for Weatherby-Reynolds Consulting Engineers as well as maintaining his own custom-residential design practice. Mr. Fritson also holds a California Contractors License and has been associated with numerous construction firms over the past 25 years in the Calaveras and Amador County areas.
Kevin has been primarily responsible for the design and engineering of numerous custom residential projects. These projects have incorporated a variety of materials including conventional wood-frame construction, rammed earth, straw-bale, timber-frame, and structural insulated panel construction techniques. Many of these homes utilize passive solar techniques and site integration and range in various locations from the lower elevation Valley region to high snow load areas such as Bear Valley. Kevin has also been responsible for many light commercial projects in the area including numerous winery projects. Because of his extensive experience in the Mother Lode region, he is familiar with the local codes and design requirements involving both conventional and alternative construction methods and materials and can incorporate his past construction experience to produce creative, effective, and efficient designs and engineering solutions.
